I just want to say anonymity and lack of censorship are great features, as it forces users to respond to the arguments behind the posts, rather than saying something like "Oh well this guy only has 500 forum points!" or "Pfff, well look at this guy's username!"
If you are trying to achieve something different than every other shitty ass gaming website out there, you will keep this site uncensored, no / low amount of mods, and you will keep anonymous posting as a feature. I mean, of course you don't have to listen. You can go ahead and do the opposite of all of those things, and more quickly achieve a site with 10,000+ members - But if you would rather more slowly achieve a site consisting of people who respond to arguments and the points being made, rather than to drama, people, and feelings, you will keep these features which were initially part of the site for a reason. Please do not stray from that ideology.
We already have plenty of websites full of retards. You could easily be one of them, if you want. Prove that you can also be a site for and by intelligent members, as that is the true achievement.
As someone who makes it his life long mission to take back what mods have stolen from me and so many others, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I do not see anything wrong with "karma systems". Karma system and moderators are two completely different poisons. As a communist, I believe the
karma system is the social conditioning tool we will need to train people not to be bourgeois. While it does not physically stop them from posting,
anyone who remotely even skimmed psychology will tell you the very real effects it has on a person's psyche. People want to be loved, accepted, and
appreciated for their work. And when they aren't... they die inside.
Which is precisely why no one man or his group of friends should be in charge of deciding content. Because then that's just malevolence and murder.
Of course I am not suggesting the super organism knows what is best. Society is chock full of very dumb and evil people, who would undoubtedly
exploit the karma system. But it would be a great transitioning tool away from the monarchies of internet moderators. Especially in gaming.
People can hate me all they want too, think I'm full of shit, tell me I'm full of shit. But when those assessments go from being criticism to physically
effecting where I can go, what I can do, and how much content I have accessibility too... someone's getting hurt. That fat fuck gaben nawell wants to
create an Orwellian style system using steam, to somehow trace "trolls" and punish them with higher processes and restricted content well before
they're even flagged by some butt hurt little kid.

"So, in practice, a really likable person in our community should get DotA 2 for free, because of past behavior in Team Fortress 2," Newell added. "Now, a real jerk that annoys everyone, they can still play, but a game is full price and they have to pay an extra hundred dollars if they want voice."
And of course, the ban happy sociopaths at escapist are thrilled about it. The entire gaming institution needs to burn, and with it "social networking".
Which is the elite's way of saying "wiring everyone up to doing what we tell them to do or else". I don't like being threatened. And these guys threaten
when all you've done is woken up in the morning and ate a fucking sausage egg mcmuffin.
You would think game developers of all people would realize the dangers of popularity contests, but they're scumbags. This is why I tend to
blow a gasket in my videos and spout death threats. These people are fucking psychotic and want to hurt you.
To forget one's purpose is the commonest form of stupidity.

Anonymous posting, lack of mods, and the anti-hierarchical features are here to stay. There's plenty of shitty Gamespot style sites out there already.
I'm really glad to see this thread because it means people understand what we're doing.
Never get discouraged, just let your nerdy flourish.
Mods ruin every good community.
+1 to this.
